Art Quilts

My friend Evie and I do an Advent Swap every year (well this is the second year). Last New Year we decided we would work the the Art Quilt Workbook but somehow life got in the way. However, we decided that the 25th present would be an Art Quilt following on the lines of this book. I struggled, creative juices not flowing at all. Anyway I have been drawn towards the 'abstract' for sometime and I am a great admirer of Melody Johnson who makes some stunning quilts in very bright colours. Below is my effort. Reasonably happy with the composition (who would have thought placing a few rectangles, squares and circles could be sooo difficult??). Believe me it took quite some time. The end result wasn't what I had hoped for - it is too 'quilt' looking, if you know what I mean. The photographs aren't goood at all as we haven't had very good light recently.

However, the quilt I recieved from Evie was exquisite. It was Japanese themed and the work was stunning. I will let the pictures (again unfortunately not very good) speak for themselves.

The detail is superb.

Look at the detail on the fan! Wonderful.

Evie is very talented, I think I have said before. You are very lucky to have her as a friend. Wonderful lady.
I like yours too Di, stop putting yourself down all the time. Your work is just great.
