Well thanks to suggestions from Jan it's now sorted. Apparently photographs were too large (although you do have the option of S, M, or L). Just re-sized to M and hey presto my sidebar is back at the side!!! Still doesn't explain why on the Layout screen they hadn't moved.
Another early morning. This time due to youngest GD (they are both staying with us until this afternoon). At about 5am, Curli the dog heard something in the garden, started barking, woke little GD and here we are again. Needless to say the dog is asleep again and we are all awake!! Thanks Curli
