The only thing I regret is that I didn't take the time to find out the significance of everything we saw. These huge urns are used to burn spills, while remembering and paying respect to their ancestors. Families are important to the Chinese and over Chinese New Year family members visit their parents and pay their respects. .

Thse stands were everywhere, a symbol of Chinese New Year. This year is the Year of the Ox.

We spent a lot of our time in Hong Kong eating. We stopped for a snack at the monastery. We had little savoury buns with sesame seeds, mooli cake (a sort of mooli mixture with peppers). It is made from the mooli and other vegetables which are grated then cooked then fried. Also aa sweet almondy custardy thing. They were all extremely delicious. I've got the recipe for the mooli cake and I'm going to try it out sometime.

After our little 'snack' we went for a walk. Tony was taking us to the Pillars of Wisom. It was about a mile walk but worth it. It is in a lovely spot and if you climb the hill you can see the South China Sea. Again, very peaceful. It is somewhere you can go and be with your thoughts.

We then walked a little more and then headed to a little village in the middle of nowhere for lunch. Another little gem from Tony. He seemed to know all the good places. We were orignally going to a seafood restaurant but they were closed for New Year so he took us to a place that didn't look particularly promising but I can tell you the food was excellent. All vegetarian but absolutely superb. I don't think they had many foreigners visit this restaurant as we caused a little bit of a stir. The dishes just kept coming and Erica explained what each one was. We all had a fantastic lunch!!

Off to bed now. Really must do some sewing tomorrow!!!! I've been in a Charm Square swap so I want to start doing something with them.

You look as though you were about to or had been...crying. Were you OK.
Great pictures Di. Amazing what can happen when you 'know' someone!!!!
No, I hadn't been crying Jan, it was just very warm and very dusty so the heat accounts for the red face (and a a bit of sunburn) and the dust accounted for the 'gritty eyes'. It has been good sorting out what pics to put on here as it has made me think more of what we actually did in such a short time.
